My Life in Lists

My Life in Lists

Oh, how I love to write things down. I never really thought of myself as a writer, until I recently unearthed a mountain of notebooks.  I'm not talking about a wee notebook for each year. I created the habit of simultaneously keeping journals for various subjects.  There were notebooks for my to-do lists, goals (divided conveniently by type), workouts, food diaries, finances, vision boards,  and the "Dear Diary" kinds.

I realize this might make me seem like a highly-organized person, but I am far from it.  I love details and I desperately want to document everything.  I literally carried a notebook with me at all times so I wouldn't miss a life-changing quote or mind-blowing idea.   UGH!   It's stressful just thinking about it now!

My habit stopped for nearly a year when I started to misplace journals.  Not awesome. When attempting to find the one I needed, I began reading old entries. To my amazement, I had been fighting the same battles, writing the same goals, and making the same wishes.

I stopped writing, I started doing things, and I was just fine without all the little details.

As I approached my 40th Birthday, I knew I wanted to start writing again.  Small scale. So, I started with a list of things I wanted to do before my big day.  It's written on 2 sheets of paper, folded neatly near my bed.  I won't share the entire list, but here's a couple to get you started.

#1 Run a half marathon (I'm running a full one in October instead. Boom!)
#12 Take a moonlight boat ride. (Doing that in 2 weeks.  YES!)
#27 40 random/not-so-random acts of kindness.  (Totally doing this!)
#34 Have house professionally cleaned. (Not likely, but this would rock!)

Now about that act of kindness....Today was simple and worth it. First, I invested time in a person I rarely chat with and enjoyed every minute of it. Second, I complimented someone on a characteristic that I find enviable.  Guess what?! I felt great instead of jealous.

What a cool way to end my day. Thanks for joining me!
